Off The Cuff

I've been crocheting again, I know, yawn-a-rama right?  Perhaps I should start a crochet blog to save you all from my granny ways but until that happens you'll just have to humour me, ok?!

I've made these...
"What are they Christy?!" I hear you cry, well they're boot cuffs.  'Tis the season of the boot and if you're like me and can't be faffed with a chunky sock (as well as chunky legs) squeezed into your boots then this may be the answer.
I made some in grey to go with my wellingtons and some in cream
to go with another pair of boots, I've also made an olive green pair but as you can see pictures taken by me of my own legs haven't come out that brilliantly (have you ever tried to photograph your own legs?, go on try it, it's trixy!) so I haven't bothered to try and capture those ones on film.
Anyway, I shall be adding these babies to my Etsy shop asap.

Tickets Please!

Mr Right has just discovered Pinterest.  His new-found obsession resulted in this wonderful birthday present he engineered for me.  On the day he presented me with a box frame and we spent a lovely afternoon rummaging about in the loft for all our concert tickets and festival wristbands, theatre and sporting event tickets, theme park and cinema stubs and threw them haphazardly into the frames.  I made some giant 'Admit One' tickets in pink (for me) and blue (for Mr Right) and we hung them on the wall in our dining room, much better than them lurking in dusty old boxes in the loft.
The only trouble is that they're pretty much full to bursting so we may have to make two more!

I must also mention that Mr Right made me a birthday cake.  He was very aware that I make cakes for loads of other people but rarely do I get a cake made for me so he asked me what cake I'd like (Farmhouse Cake fyi) and he made it for me complete with candles!
I'm seriously thinking of going into retirement as it was delicious, Mr Right can make the cakes from now on.

As Seen On TV

I have been preserving, so far this month I've made Strawberry Jam, Lemon Curd, Green Tomato Chutney and Bramble Jelly.

I've only made a couple of jars of each, mainly from leftovers or a last ditch harvest of the plants in our garden before autumn really kicks in.

The Green Tomato Chutney is my first foray into pickling and I'm really pleased with the result as it's a great use for all those tomatoes that didn't ripen in time for summer salads and what's more it tastes amazing with cheese and biscuits.

The Lemon Curd occurred (!) because we had a glut of lemons lurking in the fridge.  It was so simple to make I don't know why I hadn't made my own before now and it tastes fab as a quick alternative to jam as a sponge filling.

The Bramble Jelly came about after a spot of blackberry picking whilst there were still plenty to be had but the discovery that we had no room in either of our freezers having been generously given a load by Mr Right's Mum.

In the same week that I made the Bramble Jelly Mr Right and I spotted that a local village was holding a village show so I thought I'd enter a pot of my jelly in the preserves section of the show, sadly it didn't win a prize (not sure how you can judge preserves if you don't actually taste them, my jar came back untouched!) but it did appear on The One Show as coincidentally they were filming at the show because their presenters had entered produce into some of the categories there.

Here's my Bramble Jelly's 15 seconds of fame (being helpfully pointed out by Missy)

Etsy Does It

Well I've finally done it, after almost a year of procrastination I've dusted off the cobwebs and actually added some items to my Etsy shop

It's only got about 10 listings but it's a start and I'll be adding more as and when I get a decent block of time but I thought I'd use Lakota's TaDah! Tuesday as a bit of free advertising to get the ball rolling.

My first listing was this little baby that, according to Lauren Lavern (style columnist for the Guardian) is bang on trend for this Autumn/Winter (she favourited my tweet regarding it too so perhaps she'll be my first customer?  Here's hoping!)

This Week's Junk Shop Jewels

Mr Right and I enjoyed a child-free weekend.  So following an afternoon at the gym with a swim, sauna and hot tub sesh thrown in for good measure and an evening spent watching Russell Kane at our local theatre we got up early for some rare car boot action.  Here's what I came back with.

First up this beautiful Lloyd Loom style hamper, the trader wanted £20 but I eventually got it for £15.  I was going to give it a makeover akin to the chair and bedside cabinet I've already done but this it quite lovely as it is
A pair of funky coffee cups 10p each
Cute little plate depicting a Parisian street scene, I'm sure Karen at The White Approach found one of these a while back and I loved it then so I'm super pleased to have one myself now and for the bargain price of 50p
Cake plate and a couple of side plates £2
And finally this, not technically a car boot find but a great item none the less.  It's a dress maker's dummy.  Mr Right's Grandmother wanted shot and offered it to me.  Needless to say it's now freaking me out every time I go into the dining room but I thought it would look great perhaps recovered in linen to display my crocheted scarves, shawls and cowels so I can photograph them for my Etsy shop.
Mr Right didn't get anything, although he did have hysterics over a man who picked up what he thought to be an empty suitcase and actually turned out to be full of crockery, queue the sound of shattering plates (it was like something out of a Greek restaurant) and Mr Right guffawing at the poor unfortunate soul.
